Chilli Blue Backpackers Kings cross.
Everyone said Kings Cross was going to be horrendous. When I booked a last minute hostel there for a few nights, after a sudden plan change, horror stories about people dying, getting mugged and sleeping with cockroaches came tumbling out of everyone I spoke to.
So I wasn’t exactly pumped to be leaving my nice friendly digs in Base Hostel on Kent street.
I walked across town in penny pinching backpacker spirit.
When I stepped on to the Main Street I definitely got the vibe everyone was talking about, it was kinda dirty and so condensed!
Literally night club|bar|travel shop|bar|sex shop|takeaway|night club….
But only really for a couple of hundred meters, after that it dilutes into the really quite nice ‘Potts Point’ area.
I was quite relieved to find my hostel wasn’t on that Main Street, it was a block below down on Victoria street. Completely on the edge of it all.
If you turned right and walked down the road you came to a lovely park actually built on top of a multi story car park with epic views of the city and the harbour bridge! (Especially at night)
Across the from the main entrance are a set of steps that take you down into Woolloomooloo a cute little area that is only really moments away from the botanical gardens and then the city!
I took that route every day I stayed there.
The hostel itself was pretty good, clean enough rooms, big communal area, free use of actual computers and free breakfast, however no plates or cups (I buttered toast on my palm!) so something to get in advance which is pretty standard I suppose.
